How to Fix iMessage Sending From Email Instead of Phone Number: 3 Solutions
Your contacts may become confused if your iMessage is using your email address rather than your phone number to send messages. This frequent problem is typically caused by incorrectly setup iMessage settings. To make sure that your phone number, not your email address, is used to send messages, follow these three easy steps.
Solution 1: Check if Your Phone Number Is Selected for iMessage
You can use your phone number or email address (Apple ID) to send and receive iMessages on your Apple devices. Therefore, make sure you have chosen your phone number for iMessage if your email appears when you text your contacts.
On iPads and iPhones
Verify that your phone number is selected by opening Settings > Messages > Send and Receive.
On a Mac
Step 1: Launch the Messages application, choose Messages, and then choose Settings.
Step 2: When sending and receiving iMessage on your Mac, make sure your phone number is selected by selecting the iMessage tab.
Fix 2: Enable iMessage Again
Try turning on iMessage on your devices once more if the problem persists and you’re curious as to why it’s delivering messages from emails. Your interactions will sync between devices, download, and re-register as a result.
On iPads and iPhones
Step 1: First, go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.
Step 2: To activate iMessage, wait a few seconds and then hit the toggle once more.
On a Mac
Step 1: Click on Messages > Settings after opening Messages.
Step 2: To turn off the service, click the iMessage tab at the top and choose the Enable Messages in iCloud box.
Step 3: Check the box once more after a little pause.
Solution 3: Reset Network Settings
Reset the network settings on your Mac, iPhone, and iPad if none of the fixes resolve the issue. By doing this, all associated network choices will be deleted, and the default settings will be restored. Naturally, you’ll need to enter your Wi-Fi information once more, and it will be a new beginning.
On iPads and iPhones
Step 1: Launch the Settings application and select General.
Step 2: Choose Transfer or Reset iPhone/iPad after scrolling to the bottom.
Step 3: Choose Reset Network Settings after tapping on Reset.
Step 4: To be sure, tap Reset Network Settings one more.
On a Mac
Step 1: Launch Spotlight Search by pressing the Command + Spacebar keyboard shortcut. Type Wi-Fi and hit Return.
Step 2: Next to the Wi-Fi network that is linked, click the Details option.
Step 3: In step three, select “Forget This Network.”
Step 4: To confirm, click Remove.
Step 5: To see if this resolves the issue, close the window and re-connect to your Wi-Fi.
