Quick Tips
- Choose the refresh rate by going to Settings > Display & Brightness.
- Go to Developer Options and enable the Show refresh rate option if you think an app has a lower refresh rate.
- You will need to utilize a third-party program called SetEdit in order to make apps operate at the maximum refresh rate.
How to Enable a High Refresh Rate on Android
Step 1: First, launch the Settings application. Press the “Display & brightness” button.
Step 2: Tap the refresh rate of the screen. This window has choices for choosing a high refresh rate. For the same, check the box.
This should allow all programs to have a high refresh rate. All of your apps should operate at the chosen refresh rate because smartphones do not allow you to choose a refresh rate for individual apps.
Some apps, nevertheless, won’t operate at a fast refresh rate. Even with a refresh rate of 90 Hz or 120 Hz, they appear to be slow. If you too noticed this, let’s examine the refresh rate on your phone to confirm your suspicions.
Check Which Apps Don’t Work With a Higher Refresh Rate
At 120Hz, the YouTube app felt clunky and slow in our experience. Other apps, on the other hand, ran well and had a high refresh rate. Therefore, we tested the app and looked at the refresh rate. First, developer options must be enabled.
Note: These features are experimental and intended for development. Proceed at your own risk and with prudence.
Go to Settings > Device Information > Version. Until you see the message “You are now in Developer mode,” keep tapping on the Build number.
Step 1: The developer options must now be opened. In the settings app, select the Additional Settings tab.
Step 2: The second step is to tap Developer options. Locate and activate the Show refresh rate toggle by scrolling down. You’ll find it in the Display settings.
The refresh rate value will now appear in the upper left corner of your screen.
Initially, it said 120Hz when we were accessing our home screen, so we chose that.
We evaluated the YouTube app’s refresh rate after noticing that it was operating slowly. It turns out that the YouTube app was operating at 60 Hz, as we had assumed.
Fortunately for us, there were moments when it was just Snapchat and the YouTube app. But if you’re having this problem with additional apps, it might be annoying. You would want to address the problem as quickly as possible because you pay more for a phone with a fast refresh rate display.
Force Peak Refresh Rate on Your Android Device (Without Root)
SetEdit is an Android app for database editing. By changing their values, it assists in changing a few setups. Apps can therefore operate at the maximum refresh rate by adjusting the display refresh rate values.
Note: This entails changing a few device settings that are not normally accessible through the Settings app. Proceed at your own risk and with caution. Before continuing, we suggest making a complete backup of your device.
Step 1: Download the SetEdit app from the Play Store.
Examine the cautions and warnings that the app developer has included. The safety of your device is not guaranteed by us or the app developer.
Step 2: Grant the required permissions and disregard any error messages indicating incompatibility with the application.
Step 3: Select Add New Setting from the app’s main screen. Put the following text in the designated field:
peak_refresh_rate
Press “Save Changes.”
Step 4: In the Edit Setting pop-up window, enter the value. Enter “1” in place of “SETTING_VALUE.”
Press “Save Changes.”
Step 5: Add two more settings with values of “1” by repeating the same process (beginning with step three).

After completing the aforementioned procedures, all applications ought to operate at 120 Hz.
Since this approach worked for us, we suggest it. Check out the screenshot below, which shows our YouTube app operating at a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
